We were supposed to give Indo China independence but instead we sided with the French because we wanted their support against the Soviets. We betrayed the Vietnamese whom we promised independence if they helped us root out Japanese forces. 80% would have voted for Ho Chi Min to be their leader but the US cancelled elections. 07-07-26 00:38:35 _____________________________________________________
overmind25 ::: Favorites He had fought for their independence since WWI, trying to negotiate self government but he was always just brushed aside until the allies needed help in WWII. The South Vietnamese government was nothing but a French puppet. But people back home complained and protested and politicians blustered and they were told "this far and no further" (the 53rd parallel) And they began being massacred.
